The client is a rapidly-growing fresh meal producer partnering with leading retailers to fuel sustainable, healthy food consumption across the US. Changing consumer demands and global supply chain constraints, accelerated by the pandemic, have led to mounting competition in the sector. This forced the Client to look to data & analytics to get ahead of the volatility.
The company worked with our team to construct a future state vision and actionable roadmap to achieve quick wins around price optimization. We then moved to developing an Insights Hub to support the introduction of new meals into the product mix, reduce raw material costs, and create a single source of truth for performance management. By leveraging our in-house cloud analytics lab and deep resource pool, these solutions began generating tangible business value by month two.
Plotting a Course for an Insight-driven Future.
The client initially faced multiple barriers to efficiently leveraging data to improve decision making: siloed, manual analytical processes and the lack of a unified vision around monitoring and managing organizational performance. The firm also faced rising costs in key ingredients due to supply chain complications and lacked the necessary visibility into these expenses to respond appropriately and proactively.
Both teams then began a collaborative visioning process to create a data & analytics program to combat these challenges. The architecture designed was centered around a fundamental alignment with overarching business goals, namely fueling sustainable growth, reducing raw materials costs, and improving profitability across the product mix. Key tenants of our approach included an emphasis on collaboration, cultural change, and constant iteration to generate quick wins and steadily gain stakeholder buy-in across functional areas. The teams concluded that an Azure-based cloud environment would allow for seamless integration with their existing tech stack, sustainable data management, and machine learning workloads around forecasting raw material costs and lead times.
To drive buy-in across the company, we ran a rapid prototyping phase to demonstrate the power of analytics, building a one-stop-shop to understand where prices were increasing, underlying driving forces, and where they needed to be increased. After both parties were satisfied with the results of this initial sprint phase, our Client concluded that our Insights on Demand offering was the best path forward to ensure the necessary resources were available to quickly tackle the aforementioned challenges. This unlocked a dedicated data & analytics team to unlock actionable insights and upskill the Client’s internal teams. This allowed client stakeholders to focus on business priorities and incorporate data-driven insights into everyday decision making across the organization.
